I am always a fan of dinners where much of the prep work can be completed the night before. Next up in my Trader Joe’s meal series which already includes recipes for Easy Sausage CasseroleSteak with Tomato and Ajika Pan Sauce, and Pork Chops with Corn Salsa is this recipe for Easy Indian-Style Garlic Achaar Chicken, in which you make a simple yet flavorful marinade and then cook it the next day. When you are ready for dinner, just pop it in the oven and serve with your favorite Trader Joe’s Indian side dishes.

What You’ll Need from Trader Joe’s

  • 2 pounds Trader Joe’s All Natural Boneless and Skinless Chicken Breasts (4 breasts total)
  • 16 ounce container Trader Joe’s Plain Whole Milk Greek Yogurt
  • 6.8 ounce jar Trader Joe’s Indian Style Garlic Achaar Sauce
  • 2.5 ounce bag fresh cilantro

If you want to build a full Indian feast you can also add: Tandoori Naan, a bag of mini Vegetable Samosas, a cucumber, and a red onion.

How to Make This Easy Indian-Style Garlic Achaar Chicken

Step 1: Score the top of each chicken breast by making slices across the top. Do not cut too deep, just about 1/4 inch. In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of the Greek yogurt with 1/4 cup of the Garlic Achaar Sauce. Cover the chicken breasts on all sides with the marinade. Cover and chill overnight or at least 8 hours.

Step 2: When ready to cook, preheat the oven to 375℉. Remove the chicken breasts from the marinade, shake off the excess, and place on a nonstick foil-lined baking sheet. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.

Step 3: Slice the chicken breasts and place on a serving platter. Garnish with fresh cilantro.

Step 4: It is fun to serve this chicken family-style with any of your favorite Trader Joe’s Indian side dishes. I like to pick up a 12 ounce bag of Tandoori Naan and an 8.5 ounce box of Mini Vegetable Samosas from the frozen section to add to the meal. It’s also nice to make a simple salad of sliced cucumber and red onion as a fresh side dish. Be sure to put a little more of that delicious Garlic Achaar sauce in a small bowl for dipping. Serves 4.

Why I Love This Recipe

The jar of Trader Joe’s Indian Style Garlic Achaar Sauce is the true hero of this meal. It does double duty, first as it is used in the chicken marinade, but also as a flavorful dipping sauce for serving. Whether it is in the dry goods aisles or in the frozen foods section, Trader Joe’s carries some really wonderful Indian products that can come together to create a fantastic spread. This meal is the perfect blend of freshly made items combined with convenience products from the freezer section. While the chicken dish is incredibly flavorful, it isn’t too spicy. So this meal is a great way to introduce your family to exciting tastes that might be new to their palate without being too overwhelming.
